Homeopathy
What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of healing which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. Homeopathy recognizes that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of a dis-ease within the entire person and that it is the patient who needs treatment, not the disease. The goal of homeopathy is to help heal the whole person. The indicated homeopathic remedy stimulates the body’s immune system to cure itself, using very small doses of natural substances which stimulate the body to heal itself.
In 1796 a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, established a different approach to the cure of the sick which he called homeopathy, from the Greek words meaning “similar suffering”. Like Hippocrates two thousand years earlier, Hahnemann realized that there were two ways of treating ill health, the way of opposites and the way of similars. A case of insomnia can be treated with drugs which bring on an artificial sleep, drugs which can become addictive and have side affects. Homeopathy gives the patient a minute dose of a substance which in large doses causes sleeplessness in healthy persons. Surprisingly, this will enable the patient with insomnia to sleep naturally. Because of the minute dosage, no side effects or addiction will result.
Homeopathy as health care.
Homeopathy is widely used in much of the world, as it was here in the U.S. until the 1920’s. In France, approximately 40% of the public has use homeopathic remedies. In the Netherlands, almost half of Dutch physicians consider homeopathic remedies effective and in Britain, the use of homeopathy is growing by 40% a year. Homeopathy is practiced extensively in Germany, India , Brazil and South Africa.
What your homeopath will need to know
Your homeopath will want to know all about you. You will be asked questions about yourself and your illness. Do not be afraid to mention something you think or feel is unusual or unimportant. Do remember that anything you say is treated in strict confidence.
